Shops at Spencers, Hot Topic, & Goth Store are her favorites. She also shops a lot on E bay. Listens to goth music which derives from rock music, also  known as Gothic Rock, related to positive punk. Loves piercings and lots of dark makeup and hairdye. Favorite bands include Doll Factory, The Cure, Marilyn Manson, Fun House, In the Nursary and many more. Enjoys being pale, spends little time in sunlight or beaches. Enjoys going to concerts and making her own outfits. The picture above shows a piece she made out of ducktape. Studded belts and jackets are a must as well as black. She is a the youngest child and became asstranged as a young child because she was never as successful as her older siblings. She wasn't the most attractive either which led her to branch out. It was hard for her to be accepted until she made friends people with her own style.

I am only at 18 journals so I looked back on my tentative assignments for this semester and decided to finish the journals I have not yet done. The question of COLLEGE SO FAR seemed to pop out at me so it was the one. College so far hasn't been exactly what I planned it to be thus far. I honestly don't like it very much. It just isn't what I thought it would be here. I have decided I don't like it here very much and I am transfering next semester. I have many friends for this.. I am bored 24.7, barly made any friends, def not any reliable friends. I do  not like the atmosphere, I miss my boyfriend, I do not like having a roommate and I want to change my major and be in a city and just kind of start over. I am going to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in the Spring. I think with their more hands-on environment and classes that actually pertain to my major, I will be able to let out my creative side almost 95% more... without holding back. I am so excited to go. My last couple weeks at Kent are coming to a close but I think I will still miss it here a little bit. It was my first college experience that I will remember forever.

I finally realize after this long journey through journal entries and papers and now the PowerPoint that the subculture that I belong to the most fitting is the subculture known as “indie”. This subculture has many different values that are extremely important in belonging to this group. If these values were not there the group wouldn’t exist.

Stereotypes; generalizations about groups and individual members thereof, based primarily on membership in that group. They may be positive or negative, they may be accurate or inaccurate regarding average characteristics of a group, and may be used to justify certain discriminatory behaviors. Some people consider all stereotypes to be negative because they are unjust to individuals who vary from group characteristics. Stereotypes may be accurate, based on some kernel of truth yet exaggerated, or completely fabricated.

That definition is straight out of the enclycopedia. If i were to wright a definition I would say the same thing. I think including that they are unjust but then says it can be accurate is a good thing.

Anthropology is the study of humanity. Anthropology has origins in the natural sciences, the humanitites, and the social sciences.
Stereotyping is part of a human being. That is why it isn't as bad as most think.

Prejudice is an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

I am not going to lie my progress is going horribly. I have missed way to many classes and have just fallen greatly behind. I need to start coming to class and getting all my work done so I can catch up with the rest of the class and be successful in my final project. I do feel though that throughout the coursework I am starting to become very comfortable with defining my subculture and knowing all I need to know. I need to get the outline and sources figured out though asap and begin to start on my final paper. It's rather difficult for me to start writing a final paper but I think if i go over it and correct it many times it will be okay.

"If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be and why? (physically or emotionally)"

There are obviously more than one thing I would change about myself but since noone is perfect and if I could only pick one I would pick to change my temper. I would rather change something about me emotionally because drastic changes in your physical appearance change how you really are as a person. Once I get mad I usually stay mad for awhile and I sometimes hold a grudge. I would change myself to not be as explosive as I get when I am really mad. It is something that is hard for me to control but I think if I could change that I would be a more relaxed individualy.

This was honestly really hard to for me. I still feel that it's hard to pick my actual subculture because I am friends with many different people and groups and lifestyles.  I decided to just do one of my favorite songs. I think people with the same taste in music and style as me would like this song. It is by Kate Nash. She has a unique style but it's an indie, pop folk kind of genre. The lyrics also describe herself as a normal person no matter what people may think of her which I thought would be appropriate.

Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary defines literacy as being "the quality or state of being literate."

1) "able to read and write," and
2) "versed in literature or creative writing...having knowledge.

There is literacy in everything though. Not just in reading and wirting in English class but also in the way we live. In definition number two it says "having knowledge". There is literacy in everything. Being illiterate is not knowing. You can be literate in cooking all the way to driving a car. Saying one may be illiterate most would automatically assume they cannot read or write but it could also mean they are not knowledgable about what they are doing. Being literate is something that comes with age and experience. Noone is born literate. It is something you learn and grow with. It is the ability to express yourself in more than one way and be diverse. To be literate you will be able to communicate socially and understand your surrounding. There is more to the word then most people realize.

I never really considered myself as a "raver". But by reading the definition I realized it is pretty similar to who I am. I love bright colors and I've been known as pretty outgoing.
